Posted Nov 21, 2012

San Diego Chargers players Antonio Garay and David Molk recently visited local youth at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego’s Encanto Branch (Club) to announce the two essay winners of Mission Federal Credit Union's Financial Fitness Touchdown Challenge essay contest.

Judi and Rasheed were named the lucky winners and were awarded two tickets to this weekend’s game vs. Baltimore, autographed footballs and team gear for their essays on fitness and inspiration.  All participants received autographed mini footballs and fun football-themed giveaways.

As part of Mission Federal Credit Union’s Financial Fitness Touchdown essay contest, Club students submitted essays on the importance of financial and physical fitness and on who inspires them for an opportunity to win game tickets, memorabilia and a visit by the Chargers.

“Mission Federal Credit Union is so pleased to be able to partner with our hometown team the Chargers and the fantastic staff and students of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego to bring an awareness of the importance of financial, physical, and academic fitness to the students in a fun and interactive learning environment,” said Tricia Link, Vice President, External Affairs, Mission Federal Credit Union.

While visiting the students, Garay and Molk spoke about staying fit and setting goals, rounding out a day of learning and fun the kids will never forget.

“It’s our turn to give back to these kids and help them strive to be successful, which will allow them to get where they want to be in life,” said rookie center David Molk, who knows what kind of an ipact appearances by NFL players can make on adolescents.

For every touchdown the Chargers score this season, Mission Federal is making a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego to fund financial education classes. Mission Federal also made a contribution of $5,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego’s Encanto Branch to fund financial education classes.
