No matter where you look on the field, it seems number 87 is always out there.

“Micheal has shown what we hoped for when we brought him in,” said head coach Norv Turner. “He’s a versatile player. He can play in all of the kicking game scenarios, and we can put him out at wide receiver and in the slot. Obviously he’s been very active in the preseason so we like what we’ve seen from him.”
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound receiver entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2006, and after a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers, most recently spent the last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For his career, he has 23 receptions for 294 yards and two touchdowns, but most of his damage has come on special teams. Spurlock has returned 41 punts for an 8.1 yards-per-return average and one touchdown while also returning 73 kickoffs for an average of 25.1 yards and two scores.
Clearly, Spurlock is a versatile player, and he stressed that aspect of his game when asked about what he brings to the Chargers.
“I’m just willing to go out there and do whatever it takes wherever they can use me,” he said. “I’ll go out and play special teams, and when it comes to receiving I pretty much know all the positions. So however they want to use me, I’m going to go out there and make sure I can help them any way I can.”
When it comes to being a receiver, Spurlock feels confident he can back up each position whether it is out wide or in the slot, and explained how he has learned a lot from the current crop of pass catchers.
“I love the group that we have,” he said with a smile. “I mean, you’ve got great players like ![]()

“Spurlock is a veteran,” he said. “He’s been on a couple of teams and he’s one of those guys that can kind of do a little bit of everything. We’ve thrown him around in just about every position on the field. He’s a super sharp guy and he continues to make plays.”
Without a doubt, every team in the league can use a player like Micheal Spurlock. Luckily for the Chargers, they have the real McCoy.
