Shoot to Cure HD is Friday

Join the Chargers in the fight to end Huntington’s Disease: enjoy some of San Diego’s best food and beverages, participate in a team speed free-throw contest, tour Chargers Park and bid on some great auction items.

SAN DIEGO – The 10th-annual Qualcomm Shoot to Cure HD, presented by Cymer and Viejas, will take place at Chargers Park beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

One of San Diego’s best outdoor parties features food, entertainment and prizes while raising money for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, which conducts research to look for a cure for the fatal degenerative brain disorder.

The event features a speed free-throw shooting contest. Tickets cost $1,000 for your team of 10 or $125 per person.

Attendees will be able to sample some of San Diego’s finest food and beverages, tour Chargers Park and participate in an extensive auction that includes framed autographed jerseys from Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees and Lance Alworth, VIP experiences at training camp, the team’s facility and on the field during the Packers game among other things.

RUNNING TO CURE HD: Chargers director of public relations Bill Johnston and his daughter Hayley Johnston will be running in the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on Sunday to raise money to cure Huntington’s disease.

Supporters across the country have contributed nearly $21,000 this year. The Johnstons set a goal of raising $25,000 by the start of the race.

PAGANO SKILLS CAMP: Chargers linebackers coach John Pagano will hold his third-annual skills camp June 11 and 12 at Westview Park. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $100.

All AYF players are eligible to attend and the proceeds will benefit Mira Mesa Youth Football. The cost includes lunch and a T-shirt. Several Chargers coaches will participate.

FREE YOUTH CLINIC: The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, Kaiser Permanente and NCAA Football will host a free youth football clinic July 30 at Qualcomm Stadium.

The event, open to ages six to 14, will be run by NCAA football coaches and student-athletes and features a motivational speaker and free lunch.
