Rookie Report: Ladarius Green

Posted Jul 19, 2012

Training Camp is just around the corner as the San Diego Chargers prepare for the start of the 2012 season. Before things kick off with rookies reporting Sunday night, here’s your chance to get to know a little bit about each of the Chargers draft choices. We continue with the team’s fourth-round pick, tight end Ladarius Green.

The Chargers used their fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft to select rangy tight end Ladarius Green from Louisiana-Lafayette. San Diego football fans will remember Green from his five-catch, 121-yard, one-touchdown effort against San Diego State in the 2011 New Orleans Bowl. Now in San Diego, the Chargers believe he can be a big-play complement to Antonio Gates.

A three-time All-Sun Belt League choice, the 6-6, 240-pound Green caught 149 passes for 2,201 yards and 22 touchdowns during his career with the Ragin’ Cajuns. His 22 touchdown catches were second-most in school history behind current Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley, while his yardage and reception totals ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Green also excelled in the classroom, earning a degree in finance in just three-and-a-half years. He spoke publicly about one day pursuing a career in investment banking.

Green was born in Berlin, Germany, while both of his parents served in the military.

Despite his 6-6 frame, Green’s nickname is “Pee Wee.” It is a moniker he was given as a high school junior when he stood just 5-10, but even though he hit a major growth spurt shortly thereafter, the name stuck and his teammates still refer to him as Pee Wee.
