The Chargers used their fifth-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft to select guard ![]()
Troutman started the last three seasons at left guard for the Nittany Lions without allowing a sack. He was credited for throwing 38 touchdown-resulting blocks during his career and as a senior in 2011 he wasn’t flagged for a single penalty. During his junior and senior seasons, Penn State led the Big Ten in fewest sacks allowed.
Troutman was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick in ’11 and he was named the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club of New Jersey’s Division I College Player of the Year.
Troutman battled several injuries prior to the draft, including surgery for a pectoral injury in April. Despite the diagnosis, the Chargers still liked what they saw from the former Nittany Lion and made him their choice in the fifth-round.
