Rivers hosts 5K to help foster youth

Posted Jun 15, 2012

Watch Philip Rivers talk about his upcoming 5K

Philip Rivers is trading in cleats for running shoes to support foster children at the Rivers of Hope 5K on Saturday, June 16. Serious and casual runners and walkers of all ages are invited to join Rivers walk or run along the water at NTC Park in Point Loma in order to raise money for the Rivers of Hope Foundation.

“The 5K benefits the Rivers of Hope Foundation and the programs we have developed to help bring hope to foster children in need,” said Rivers. “The event not only raises money to help, but also brings awareness to this cause, showing what these kids go through in their everyday lives.

It’s a fun and great way for the community to get together and support a very worthy cause.”

The Rivers of Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Rivers and his wife, Tiffany develops and coordinates resources and programs that create community awareness, recruit adoptive families, provide financial aid for adoption and offer assistance for foster children in San Diego.

The 5K run will begin at 8:25 am and the walk will begin at 8:30 am. After the 5K run, an awards ceremony for the overall top three runners as well as the top three runners in each age division will be held, along with family-themed music and entertainment. In addition, winning runners of each category will receive two tickets to SeaWorld San Diego.

The registration fee is $45 for adults and $25 for children. The entry fee includes:
• 5K Walk/Fun run, commemorative T-shirt, race gift bag and post-race activities
• Free sandwich voucher from Capriotti’s Sandwich shop
• Free haircut voucher from Sport Clips
• Free sandwich coupon to Gaglione’s Famous Steaks and Subs
