The 6-foot, 204-pound cornerback has started all but two games for San Diego since 2003, making 17 interceptions and 112 passes defensed in his nine-year career.

What is your most memorable moment as a charger?
Being drafted by the Chargers. I thought I was going to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 6 pick. I ended up being drafted without a clue, and didn’t know anything about the Chargers.

Is it frustrating being one of the top corners in the league and having never been selected to a Pro Bowl?
It was frustrating when I was younger but as you get older Pro Bowls don’t really matter. I just want to win a Super Bowl before I get out of here, and that’s more important than anything football wise to me.

What’s your opinion on
I always felt like he was going to be a pretty good corner for us. He’s (really) good. But he had help, and I credit myself with him being the type of player he is. I credit myself for being the old man back there.

I heard you have a younger brother that currently plays at your old high school, and has potential to be as good if not better than his older brother. What are your thoughts on that?
I hope he is. We started him out early and groomed him to be an athlete. We had no clue how good he was going to be. But as an athlete with a younger brother, you want to teach him everything that you know. It’s worked out for him.

We all know you love to play football on Sundays, but what is your favorite golf course that you have played here in San Diego?
I am a member at Fairbanks Country Club. It’s definitely one of my favorites. I’ve played The Bridges and that’s definitely one of my favorites. Another one would be Torrey (Pines). It’s a great course. I’d take any one of those three.

How do you feel about the Chargers after nine seasons, and how did it feel to be named one of the 50 greatest Chargers of all time?
That was awesome. The first couple years here the fans were hard on me. To actually turn around their opinions by becoming a player they respect and like, and to be voted on the list was huge for me.

What influence(s) encouraged you to play football?
No particular person influenced me. My mom wouldn’t let me play Pop Warner football, so I would just play football with the neighborhood kids. I was a baseball guy, but it didn’t have enough contact. I like to hit people (laughter). When I went to middle school, I got into football. From then on I loved it.

Who did you look up to playing your position growing up?
When I think about how the position is played, I think about Lester Haynes and Mike Haynes who played the position like a football player. Now they try to put labels on corners (such as) cover corners or tackling corners. I think those guys were football players playing corner. They could do it all. They were physical while doing it. Those were the guys who I tried to emulate my game after.

Why did you choose the number 23?
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23. When I was coming out of college, I wanted No. 24 but it wasn’t available. The first thing that came to my mind was Psalm 23.

You’re a veteran in the league now. Is there still a lot of trash talking on the field in compared to when you first entered into the league?
I’ve never been a trash talker. I don’t get into the talking because I feel like that’s just people trying to get into your head. If you get caught up in that nonsense that’s how you get your game thrown off. I’ve always just shut up and played football. Over the years the trash talking is the same. How often do you return to your alma mater to watch the football games?
I haven’t because I can’t. The last couple of years our bye weeks were the same as my little brothers so we couldn’t go watch him play. This year they will be going into the playoffs during our bye week. I’m going to round up my family and fly down to watch my little brother play. I haven’t been to Austin, Texas, because it’s just too hard to get down there.

With the last name Jammer, you must have had some nicknames. What are some nicknames that were given to you at The University of Texas or with the Chargers?
My nickname is “Jam” or people call me “Q.” I haven’t had any other nicknames.

Can you still run a low 4.4 40-yard dash, and how have you been able to play consistent over the years?
I could run a high 4.3 or low 4.4 if I really went after it. To be playing at a consistent level, I have to credit God. There’s no reason for it because I don’t do anything special. I give God full credit.
