Coach Turner says that this year's team could be the best he’s ever had. What is it like to be a part of that?
It’s an honor to be around a great group of guys. Despite losing a couple guys, it’s great to be around these guys, going out there and going to battle. I feel really comfortable lining up beside these guys, being in there and playing every Sunday.
Kyler Hurlock; Yuma, Ariz.
Do you think you could take ![]()
Nah, he’s the best player I’ve ever played. His game is awesome. I respect his hoops game.
Christian Heredia; San Dimas, Calif.
How long have you played basketball, and does it help when you execute super acrobatic catches downfield?
Yeah, I think it’s interrelated. I’ve been playing basketball since 1st grade. I think you can relate it to just getting a rebound. Flying up for a rebound kind of translates to going up for jump balls. That first-step quickness when you’re going to take a guy baseline, kind of the off-the-line move that you can use on the field. So I think it kind of runs parallel to football.
Bonnie Robison; Grand Rapids, Mich.
What are your favorite teams in other sports?
I’m a huge Shaq fan. I grew up a Lakers fan. I like Shaq. I respect Kobe though; he’s a great player even though I like Shaq, so I’ve got to go with Boston.
Mike Alvarez; Hercules, Calif.
If you had the chance to play a different position, which would it be and why?
What would it be? I wouldn’t mind playing safety. I enjoyed playing safety in high school and I was all-city at safety in high school, so I wouldn’t mind playing that, just making sure no one beat us deep.
Daniel Steffy; Carlbad, Calif.
What's your favorite type of cheese?
I love cheese. Tillamook Sharp Chedder.
Erik Ochoa; Santa Rosa, Calif.

There were a lot of things going through my head at the moment. I was a rookie. I was really happy to go out there my rookie year and eventually get my first touchdown. I didn’t play the best game I could’ve, but there were a lot of things going on and you progressively learn throughout your years as a player. It was great. I think I have the ball. One of us has the real ball. Hopefully I do, but I wouldn’t mind sharing it with him.
Claudia Ascencio; San Diego
What is your life philosophy and how do you apply it on the field?
I’m more of a family man. My main focus right now is just raising my boy as best as I can. I’ve been really fortunate to have a great father raise me to be in this position and I know he’d be happy to see me in this position. That’s my philosophy on life, to make sure my boy is OK.
Jay Deleon; San Diego
Even though the time is far from now, what are your goals after you hang up the cleats and retire?
The same thing. I’m a family-oriented guy. I just want to make sure my kids and all my immediate family are OK and set up and their futures are set and they can go to college and all that good stuff.
Tim Shearer; Auckland, New Zealand
How does it feel to be No. 1 receiver?
I feel comfortable and it really feels like I’m growing into this role. I’m getting more comfortable with it. L.A. (![]()
Raymond Jennings; Salt Lake City, Utah
I saw the 20/20 special a year ago about football in Samoa last year, and saw your jersey in the governor’s office. How often do you go to Samoa?
I didn’t visit Samoa. I actually met the governor in Colorado because my cousin was one of the first Samoans to graduate from Air Force. So I met him and I greeted the governor with my jersey for appreciation of coming to support my cousin.
Bob Johnson; Laguna Niguel, Calif.
What is your pre-game routine?
I get there, get stretched out, report pregame, warm up with Legedu and Antonio Gates and then catch a few balls. That’s about it.
A.J. Kopicki; Kingston, Pa.
What’s your favorite kind of pie?
I don’t like pie, actually. I love ice cream. My favorite is vanilla cream from Coldstone.
