Arguably no player has benefited more from the draft process following the end of the collegiate season than Terron Armstead from Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Coming from a school that the majority of the country didn’t know existed, Armstead has parlayed one dominating performance into another making himself a popular name heading into the draft.

Armstead performed mightily in this season’s East-West Shrine game.  His performance was so impressive that when an injury sidelined Dallas Thomas for the Senior Bowl, he earned an invite turning heads there as well.  But it was at the Scouting Combine that the nation as a whole took notice.  Armstead ran a blazing 4.71 40-yard dash, the fastest time ever for an offensive lineman.  He also finished first in the vertical jump (34.5 inches) and fourth in the broad jump (112.0 inches).

Armstead has proven he is a premier athlete for his position. He started 12 games at left tackle as a senior, displaying quick and nimble feet. He uses his quickness to gain great position against defensive ends and linebackers, giving him an edge in the one-on-one battles.  In addition to using his athleticism to his advantage, he has strength, giving way to good initial pop when engaging his opponent.

Right now, some teams might view Armstead as more of an athlete than a polished football player.  Nonetheless, it is extremely rare for an offensive tackle of his size to possess such athletic gifts that it’s no wonder his name is rapidly on the rise.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 4.71
Bench Press: 31
Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Broad Jump:  112.0 inches
