Prospect Profile: Teddy Bridgewater

Posted Apr 12, 2014

Learn more about Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2014 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on May 8th.

We continue the series with a scouting report of Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater.

Name: Teddy Bridgewater
School: Louisville
Height: 6-2
Weight: 214 pounds
Position: Quarterback

According to a select few, the shine on Teddy Bridgewater’s star may not be as bright as it once was after some analysts say he had a so-so pro day.  Still, the majority are steadfast that he remains one of the top players available this May.

In fact, there are quite a few, such as CBSSports.com’s Dane Bruglar this past week, who claim he may be the top prospect.

College football fans have long known how talented Bridgewater is, and it won’t take long before NFL fans take notice on Sundays. The 6-2, 214-pounder is a confident, hard-working passer dedicated to mastering his craft. He maintains his poise no matter how heavy the pass rush, and his calm demeanor is a steadying force for his teammates.  Possessing good enough arm strength, Bridgewater has an elite touch to make every pass.  With his ability to process the game in the classroom, on film and during game action, you can see why he is such an attractive prospect.

Over three storied seasons at Louisville, Bridgewater threw for 9,817 yards and 72 touchdowns.  Fresh off a 2012 campaign in which Bridgewater was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year, he improved significantly over that performance with his best season yet as a junior in 2013.  He completed 71.0-percent of his passes for 3,970 yards, 31 touchdowns and four interceptions.  Each of those numbers was a career-best, with his 31 touchdowns setting a new school record.  As a result, he was named  Second Team All-American Athletic Conference.

While some skeptics are pointing toward his shaky pro day, the majority point out that Bridgewater was playing in shorts, not in pads.  When the games matter, that is when Bridgewater is at his best and why he figures to be a high selection in this year’s draft.
