Stud defensive tackle prospect Star Lotulelei’s NFL Combine was over before it started when it was discovered he had a minor heart ailment that needed to be checked on by a doctor.
Luckily for him, that minor setback did very little to hinder scouts’ view on him as he put together a dominant college career. His best season was his senior year when the 6-foot-2, 311-pounder recorded 42 tackles with 11 for loss to go along with five sacks.
The first word that comes to mind when you think of Lotulelei is power. He is incredibly strong and tough for an offensive lineman, which makes him especially effective vs. the run. Lotulelei is able to hold his ground and shed blockers with ease as he plugs holes and brings down the ball carrier. The defensive tackle also excels in the passing game as a disruptive force rushing the quarterback. His powerful first punch is able to knock his blocker back, allowing him to collapse the pocket. Equally important to his power is his nonstop motor being relentless in his pursuit of the ball.
Right now, the only question mark regarding Lotulelei is the cardiac issue which popped up during a routine physical. But if all checks out cleanly, which many expect it to, Lotulelei has a very good chance at hearing his name called early in April’s NFL Draft.
