Prospect Profile: Scott Crichton

Posted Apr 25, 2014

Learn more about Oregon State defensive end Scott Crichton.

In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2014 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on May 8th.

We continue the series with a scouting report of Oregon States Scott Crichton.

Name: Scott Crichton
School: Oregon State
Height: 6-3
Weight: 273 pounds
Position: Defensive End

Scott Crichton burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman in 2011.  Three years later, he’s now poised to burst onto the scene as a dynamic NFL rookie.

The Oregon State stud made waves right from the get-go posting 74 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and a school-record six forced fumbles. His sacks and tackles for loss actually ranked first among all freshmen that year.  Crichton made a seamless switch to the left side in 2012, and finished his career with a standout junior year in which he totaled 47 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.  The defensive end finished his career as the school’s all-time leader with 10 forced fumbles and ranks third with 22.5 sacks.

A high-octane, explosive playmaker at 6-3, 273 pounds, Crichton has a blue collar work ethic and nonstop motor.  In addition to having a quick first step, he also possesses powerful hands that jolt offensive linemen.  While the fan favorite isn’t the speediest player, he plays with such passion that he seemingly finds himself in the middle of almost every play.

Crichton is a true feel good story. It’s well known that he declared early for the NFL draft in order to support his family, as his father works despite having an amputated leg while his mother has two jobs.   With a strong character to match his impressive football skills, Crichton is the type of player that is easy to root for.
