Prospect Profile: Martavis Bryant

Posted Apr 30, 2014

Learn more about Clemson wide receiver Martavis Bryant.

In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2014 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on May 8th.

We continue the series with a scouting report of Clemson’s Martavis Bryant.

Name: Martavis Bryant
School: Clemson
Height: 6-4
Weight: 211 pounds
Position: Wide Receiver

It’s hard not to get excited when evaluating Martavis Bryant.  The big wide receiver is an athletic specimen who has proven to not only be a clutch performer on the field, but aces all the metrics as well.

At 6-4, 211-pounds, Bryant turned heads recording the fifth fastest 40-yard dash of any wide receiver at 4.42.  Combined with his performance between the sidelines, it is understandable why many are intrigued by the Clemson standout.  Simply put he is a big play weapon.  Electric with the ball in his hands for a man his size, Bryant is an ideal red zone threat with his size and physical gifts. He has a knack for high pointing the ball, and once he’s secured it, he has the ability to reach the end zone on any catch.

Over three seasons at Clemson, Bryant recorded 61 receptions for 1,354 yards and 13 touchdowns.  The vast majority of those came in 2013 when he had a sensational junior campaign, snaring 42 catches for 828 yards and seven scores.  Bryant also proved to be a clutch performer.  He caught three passes in the Tigers’ Orange Bowl victory over Ohio State, but two of those receptions were good for touchdowns.  The wideout is also a dangerous returner, bringing back 14 kickoffs for 291 yards, averaging 20.8 yards per attempt.

Bryant needs to be a more sure-handed receiver and improve his route running in order to fulfill his vast potential.  Should he improve in those areas, he has a realistic chance to be a star in the NFL.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 4.42
Bench Press: 16 reps
Vertical Jump: 39.0 inches
Broad Jump: 124.0 inches
