It’s not hyperbole to say that Johnny Manziel is one of the most talked about prospects in the history of the NFL.  Where he’ll be selected in May has been debated nonstop since he declared for the draft following his sophomore season at Texas A&M. While everyone has an opinion on Manziel, here are the cold hard facts that paint an impressive picture of “Johnny Football”.

Manziel burst onto the scene in 2012, becoming the first freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy. After redshirting in 2011, he threw for 3,706 yards and 26 touchdowns for a passer rating of 155.3 while running for a team-high 1,410 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.  As a result, he became the first freshman and only fifth player in college history to pass for at least 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.  In 2013, he passed for even more yards (4,114) and touchdowns (37) for an incredible 172.9 passer rating.  Manziel’s rushing numbers, though still extremely impressive, dipped to 759 yards and nine touchdowns.

An intense competitor and remarkable athlete, the quarterback has natural playmaking ability.  Manziel’s ability to escape in the pocket and make something out of nothing has created numerous highlights over the past two seasons.  He is a very accurate thrower with excellent vision while on the run.

A main concern about Manziel is his frame, as he stands 6-0, 207-pounds. However, he points to the success of Russell Wilson to quiet those who question how he will handle the rigors of the NFL.  His large hands are also a plus, measuring 9 7/8ths at the Combine.

Regardless of where Manziel is selected, the spotlight will continue to follow him as well as the fascination in seeing how his unique game translates to the professional level.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 4.68
Vertical Jump:  31.5 inches
Broad Jump: 113.0 inches
