As the son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews, one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history, Jake Matthews naturally lives in a very large shadow.   But with all eyes watching his every move during his career at Texas A&M, he’s proven worthy of the family name having developed into an outstanding offensive tackle with a very bright future ahead of him.

Over four years at College Station, Matthews started 46 of 49 games.  His first three seasons saw him manning right tackle before he moved over to the blindside in 2013.  As a senior, Matthews was named a First Team All-American, First Team All-SEC selection and an Outland Trophy finalist.  He also won the Bobby Bowden Award for high performance on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Matthews is a sound technician who plays with a high motor.  The 6-5, 308-pounder is a driving force off the snap, bulldozing ample lanes for the running back to attack.  In pass protection, he possesses a quick, explosive punch.  Once he gets his hands on the rusher, the battle is already over.   Matthews is also lauded as a student of the game with a tremendous work ethic and excellent character.

With many looking at him to be a left tackle, his relative lack of experience at that position could be viewed as a weakness.  Still, combining his raw skill with a blue collar attitude and NFL pedigree, Matthews is an ideal lineman that many teams will be clamoring to add via the draft.
