Prospect Profile: Gabe Jackson

Posted May 5, 2014

Learn more about Mississippi State guard Gabe Jackson.

In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2014 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on May 8th.

We continue the series with a scouting report of Mississippi State’s Gabe Jackson.

Name: Gabe Jackson
School: Mississippi State
Height: 6-3
Weight: 336 pounds
Position: Guard

Gabe Jackson is a football junkie.  He grew up the son of a high school coach, so the game flows through his veins.   Add his size, intelligence and physical skillset to that passion and you have a guard prospect many pundits claim should be able to lock down a starting gig early in his career.

Standing a thickly built 6-3, 336 pounds, Jackson is a powerful force up front.  The Mississippi State star is quick out of his stance and is able to manhandle defenders when playing with proper technique.  Analysts marvel at his lower body strength which aids in absorbing bull rushers and maintaining balance.  He also possesses the type of mean streak coach’s covet always playing to the whistle.

A four year starter for the Bulldogs, all of Jackson’s 52 games came at left guard.  A two-time team captain, he did not allow a single sack after the 2012 season.  He is also praised for being a strong leader with excellent character.

Jackson isn’t the best athlete, turning in one of the slowest 40-yard dashes at the NFL Combine.  Pundits claim he is better in tight quarters than in space.   Still, there are more positives than negatives to his game which is why he may be one of the early guards to come off the board.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 5.51
Bench Press: 30 reps
Vertical Jump: 29.0 inches
Broad Jump: 108.0 inches
