Football fans in southern California don’t need to be reminded how talented Anthony Barr is.  They’ve seen it first hand over his four years at UCLA.  They’ve also seen his versatility, spending his first two years at fullback before transitioning to outside linebacker.  The change in position has proven advantageous for Barr as he is now on the precipice of NFL stardom.

In 2012 as a junior, he recorded 83 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, five passes defensed and four forced fumbles.  Last year, his numbers dipped slightly to 63 tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks and six forced fumbles.  However, it’s important to note that he was double teamed virtually every snap, so his production was still incredibly impressive.  He was also recognized as a First Team All-American for his efforts.

Barr possesses a rare combination of ideal size and elite athleticism. The 6-5, 255-pounder is a nightmare rushing off the edge, using his quickness and brute force to hassle quarterbacks.  His closing speed is tremendous, and he uses it to his advantage to not only sack QBs but to chase down ball carriers.   Barr also has a pro pedigree as his father and three of his uncles played in the NFL.  Not surprisingly, many refer to him as a coach’s dream due to his worth ethic and willingness to listen to his coaches.

With his special skillset, many expected Barr to set the Scouting Combine on fire.  Truth be told, he performed well in some regards, with his 4.65 40-yard dash ranking sixth among all linebackers.  However, he maxed out at 15 reps on the bench press, the fewest of any at his position. Nonetheless, Barr’s tape doesn’t lie, and what it shows is a special talent ready to make the leap to the NFL.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 4.66
Bench Press: 15 reps
Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Broad Jump: 119.0 inches
