Parrish gives Chargers depth at WR, KR

Posted Apr 3, 2012

SAN DIEGO – Receiver and kick returner Roscoe Parrish agreed to a one-year contract with the Chargers on Tuesday.

Parrish, 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, spent his first seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He’s averaged 12.0 yards per punt return on 135 opportunities, second in the NFL behind Devin Hester (12.9) since 2005.

The 29-year-old caught 33 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns in 2010, his best year as a receiver. Parrish caught between 23 and 35 passes in four of the last five seasons.

Parrish has scored three touchdowns on punt returns. He’s also returned 29 kicks, made eight tackles on defense, rushed 14 times and completed a pass.

He marks the third receiver and the second kick returner the Chargers have signed as free agents from other teams this offseason (New Orleans’ Robert Meachem and Denver’s Eddie Royal).

San Diego has signed 14 free agents thus far in ’12. Parrish is the ninth player to sign with the Chargers after wearing another team’s uniform last season.
