Just moments ago, I chatted with him briefly over the phone to get his first thoughts on joining the Bolts. Here is what he had to say.
Chargers.com: First off, congratulations and welcome to the San Diego Chargers.
Woodhead: Thank you! I couldn’t be more excited.
Chargers.com: Take us through your decision about why the Chargers were the right fit for you. Why did you want to come out here?
Woodhead: Really what it came down to was that I’m excited about what Tom (Telesco), Mike (McCoy) and the coaching staff are building. I like the direction the entire organization is going in. There are a lot of great players there and I’m hoping that I can go out there and do whatever I can to fit in and help this team succeed.
Woodhead: I think I’m going to leave that one up to the coaches (laughs). That’s really a coaching question. I just try to go out there and do everything I can to help the team. I’ll play my absolute hardest every play. As far as skillset, talent and stuff like that, that’s for coaches to determine. I just go out there and play.
Chargers.com: Fair enough. One of the areas that you excel at most is catching the ball out of the backfield. What do you think about the guy you will be catching those passes from, ![]()
Woodhead: Oh he’s a great quarterback! Everyone who pays attention to the NFL knows that. It’s an opportunity for me to play with another great quarterback and it’s something that I’m very excited about.
Chargers.com: You’ll be joining ![]()
Woodhead: He’s another great player from what I’ve seen. He’s got a lot of talent. It’s going to be a lot of fun to get to know him and all the new teammates that I have. But Ryan has a lot of talent and I think we will work well together running the ball.
Chargers.com: One last question before I let you go. What do you want to tell the Chargers fans out there now that you’ve agreed to terms to join the team?
Woodhead: Just that I’m excited to come to work every day. Again, I’m going to do everything I can to help the team out in any way that’s asked of me. I’ll do what I’m supposed to do to the best of my abilities, and hopefully we can win a lot of football games.
