Micheal Spurlock Claimed; Curtis Brinkley Waived

Posted Nov 28, 2012

For the second day in a row, the Chargers brought back a familiar face as they claimed wide receiver Micheal Spurlock off waivers.  To make room for him on the squad, the team waived running back Curtis Brinkley.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Spurlock signed with the Chargers in the offseason and was on the team for the first four weeks of the season. Although the team didn’t want to lose him, the Chargers waived him on Oct. 3 to make room for cornerback Chris Carr after their secondary was depleted by injuries.  Spurlock joined the Jaguars shortly thereafter, and in six games had 14 catches for 121 yards.

In his four games with the Bolts prior to being waived, Spurlock didn’t record any catches.  However, he led all receivers in the preseason with 10 receptions for 134 yards. Spurlock did see extensive time on special teams and served as the backup punt returner, fielding one punt for five yards.  It’s a position he could see time in immediately for the Chargers if Eddie Royal remains sidelined for a second consecutive game.

To make room for Spurlock, the Chargers waived Brinkley, who was in the middle of his fourth year with the team.  The running back played in seven games, rushing 29 times for 60 yards along with nine catches for 63 yards. Brinkley was also inactive for three games this season.

The Chargers also announced that the practice period expired for both Brandyn Dombrowski and Johnnie Troutman and they will remain on Reserve/Non-Football Injury for the remainder of the year.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
