SAN DIEGO – Some assistant coaches require well-crafted questions to tease out a few compelling sentences.

Not Chargers offensive line coach Hal Hunter. Give him a phrase or two and he’ll take off like a wind-up toy, spewing insight in an energetic cadence that sounds a bit like Mel Kiper Jr.

His attention to detail and level of engagement are two of the reasons he maintains a strong connection with the offensive line, the unit which he’s helped coach since 2006.

A college coach for 24 years, Hunter became assistant offensive line coach his first year in San Diego before dropping “assistant” from his title in ’07.

Hunter’s lines have helped protect Philip Rivers for all four of the quarterback’s seasons as a starter, and the Chargers have scored almost 450 points per game in those years.

Find out more about the man behind the unassuming but steady workhorses of one of the NFL’s best offenses in this short video.
