Mailbag: What is the Most Important Game of 2014?

Posted Jul 3, 2014

The latest Chargers mailbag discusses Melvin Ingram, Corey Liuget and the most important games of the year.

Q:
What game do you think will be the most important for the 2014 season? – Luis Gonzalez

A: I firmly believe in Head Coach Mike McCoy’s mantra that each game is one of 16 and has the same importance.  Part of what makes football the best sport in the world is that each and every game is extremely vital as there are so few of them in a season.  That being said, there is something extra special and meaningful about division games.  The quickest way to the postseason is to win the AFC West, so those six games between the Chargers and the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders take on extra significance. Qualcomm will be rocking for those rivalry games, so you definitely won’t want to miss them!

Q: Hey there Henne, from the OTA's, how is “Supa Melvin” looking? Even though he came back last season and made an impact, I'm hoping he turns into that premier pass rusher. – Jordan Kracht

A:  I’m happy to say that Melvin Ingram was his typical self, an athletic specimen who knows how to keep it loose while remaining extremely focused.  He exudes confidence in everything he does, including the offseason OTA’s and minicamp.  Ingram returned for the final four weeks of the regular season last year, which coincided with the team going 4-0 over that stretch to reach the postseason.  His return from the ACL injury was a pleasant surprise, but the impact he had cannot be overstated.  The Chargers are very excited about the third-year linebacker.

Q: I think Corey Liuget should be a QB after that BoltsCast! lol.  How about a package for him on offense? – Frank Wormser

A: That was quite something, wasn’t it?  He was an absolute BEAST in high school.  We were going crazy watching those highlights in the office, but I think it’s safe to say he’ll stay on defense!  If you missed it, check out the highlights in BoltsCast above.

Q: I've read about the 10 open practices the Chargers will hold this summer. Can you point me in the right direction to find the specific dates? I need to make plane reservations to make it down and BoltUp for the pre-season!!! – Bryan Welsh

A: We look forward to seeing you at Chargers Park!  Here is all the info you need to know about the open camp dates.
