Mailbag: Consistency, Fast Starts and More

Posted Oct 10, 2013

Check out this week's edition of Ricky Henne's Fan Mailbag.

Q: Lose-Win-Lose-Win-Lose.  I can’t take this inconsistency its driving me up a wall.  Why the lack of consistency? – Brian Cardiff

A:  Even though so far we’ve alternated wins and losses, I disagree with the notion of being inconsistent.  For the first four weeks, the team played at the same high level save for a couple late hiccups against the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans.  The game against the Raiders was the first, in the words of the team, game in which they “laid an egg.”  Since then the team has spoken with a steadfast determination to return to the way they played the first month of the season, which was pretty impressive.  They are confident that is truly who they are rather than what they showed in the Oakland game, particularly in the first half.

Q: Good stuff from Keenan and Vincent Brown last week.  Future is bright with these two guys, right? – Daniel Ribeira

A: I could go on a long diatribe about how I feel about these two guys.  In fact, I did.  Check out this article from earlier this week on the two of them. Also, I’m working on an article right now about the passing game in general and how it’s pretty much a pick your poison attack.

Q: I know your keys to the game come out later in the week, but here is one I think you should consider.  The team can't get behind and give a team a 17-0 point lead like they did against the Raiders.  That is too tough to come back from.  Just some food for thought.  Love the mailbag and keys to the game. – Sammie Parrish

A: You must be reading my mind because coming out with a fast start will be one of my keys to the game this week.  One of the main focuses following Week 5’s loss to Oakland was how flat the team came out to start the game. As a result, based on what Head Coach Mike McCoy and the players have said, I suspect they will place an emphasis on coming out strong in front of their home fans on Monday Night Football.

Q: I keep hearing that we are looking at a blackout for this week’s game.  Any truth to this? – Freddy G.

A: We will have an update on the status of the blackout in the next day or two, but as we wrote about a couple weeks back, it is likely that there will be a blackout for this week’s game.  The flipside of that means that there are very good seats available to purchase for what is sure to be an exciting primetime game.  Click here to purchase tickets.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
