Kellen Clemens, Chargers Agree to Two-Year Deal

Posted Mar 13, 2014

The San Diego Chargers and quarterback Kellen Clemens agreed to a two-year deal.

With only two quarterbacks on the roster in Philip Rivers and Brad Sorensen, the San Diego Chargers added a well-tested veteran to the mix today in Kellen Clemens.

Most recently with the St. Louis Rams, Clemens appeared in 10 games with nine starts in 2013 after Sam Bradford was lost for the year.  He completed 142 of 242 attempts (58.7%) for 1,673 yards and eight touchdowns for a 78.8 passer rating.  Clemens led the Rams to four wins over his nine starts, including a pair of impressive victories over the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.  Both the Colts and Saints advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Clemens spent the first five seasons of his career with the New York Jets, who selected him in the second round (49th overall) out of Oregon in the 2006 NFL Draft.  Over his career he’s appeared in 40 games with 21 starts.  Clemens has completed 338 of 620 passes (54.5%) for 3,944 yards and 15 touchdowns. His first season with the Chargers will mark his ninth year in the league.

The addition of Clemens marks the seventh transaction that San Diego has made in free agency.  They kicked it off by re-signing Donald Butler, Darrell Stuckey and Chad Rinehart before also adding Donald Brown, David Johnson and Kavell Conner
