SAN DIEGO – Director of College Scouting John Spanos broke down the Chargers’ four Saturday draft selections.
On Louisiana-Lafayette TE Ladarius Green:
“Ladarius is a very athletic player for the position. There’s a lot of potential, a lot of upside with him as a receiver. He’s still developing a little bit as a blocker, but he’s improved. They did a lot of things with him offensively. He played a little bit from a three-point stance, also from a two-point stance, so a lot of the things we do are things he’s done.”
On Penn State G Johnnie Troutman:
“We were really excited he was there in the fifth round. Had it not been for some of the medical concerns, he wouldn’t have been there in the fifth. He had some knee issues and then also this week had surgery on his (pectoral muscle). We feel about him recovering from both of those things and it doesn’t change our opinion of him as a player and our excitement of what he brings.
“He’s a big, strong, powerful guy from the guard position. A good run-blocker. I think for his size he’s a good athlete and a lot of people probably don’t give him enough credit as a pass blocker as well.”
On Michigan C David Molk:
“Real tough, scrappy player. Great intangibles. He was a captain for the Wolverines. He’s a short guy, but understands leverage. Plays with good power for a guy his size. A real strong player. Real quick. Tenacious. Gets on guys quick and finishes his blocks. He’s going to fit in great with our O-line group.”
On Michigan State RB Edwin Baker:
“He had a real productive sophomore year. I think he had over 1,000 yards and about 13 touchdowns, and then his junior year he split some time with some other talented backs there. He’s a pretty good size and shows some good speed.”
