It felt great to get the win last week. The offensive line did well because we worked really hard on our fundamentals and technique. Coach D’Alessandris and Coach Dees were really harping on us to get our hands inside and run our feet. We did some new things and some old things. We got in the chutes. We hadn’t done that for a while. So we worked our hands and feet and it worked out.
To see the run game go off like it did felt great after we placed a big emphasis on it. Coming off a week in which we averaged 1.7 yards, which clearly is not good enough, and then to come back the next week and average 4.0 is a big improvement and closer to where we need to be. We’re trying to get up over 4.0 as fast as we can.
We’re at the midpoint of the season just about and my comfort level at the guard position has been great too. I really like it a lot. It’s a lot of fun to place next to Nick and Fluker. Watching them do the things they are able to do, it’s been enjoyable. In general, our offensive line is a special group. It’s kind of crazy. We’re all from different walks of life and we have a great mix of guys. We’re different ages, some of us have kids and some of us don’t. Some are getting married soon and are about to start families soon, so it’s a great mix. We’re all in different places in life, but when we’re here we’re all together and have a lot of fun. Coach D does a good job of keeping that environment real healthy. He lets us have a lot of fun in the meeting rooms but also keeps it serious.
I spend a lot of time at the facility, but when I’m not you could probably find me playing golf. I love playing out here. I shoot in the mid-80’s. I shot an 82 this year which was the best round I played in a while, so I enjoy it.
It’s an absolute blessing to play here in San Diego with the Chargers for my entire career. I’m fortunate and very thankful for the opportunity I’ve had. So thanks for all the support. We need to fill up that Q and continue to build up our home field advantage. We’re looking to continue to get wins.
