Gaither apparently didn’t get the memo.
The 6-foot-9, 335-pound behemoth left tackle started for the Bolts just four days after returning from a back injury that kept him off the field since the second day of training camp. His steady presence was a comforting sight for ![]()
“It was awesome to come back and in my first game get the W,” he said standing at his locker after the game. “That’s what I’m here for. To go play.”
That’s certainly good news for the Chargers and head coach Norv Turner, who was effusive in his praise for his offensive lineman
“Jared Gaither gives us the best chance to win,” he said. “I didn’t get a chance to watch him play the whole time, but I thought he did very well.”
Gaither didn’t deny that he was a bit winded out there, particularly in the second half. After all, he had gone nearly 60 days without playing before returning on Wednesday.
“It was pretty tough, but that’s the process it’s going to be coming back off an injury,” he said. “But I’m just glad to be back. I felt that I was able to go all week, but I’m pretty tired right now. It was tough, but that’s what I’m here for. I’m going to go out and play and do what I do best.”
