Gaither, Kaeding Both Questionable for Sunday

Posted Sep 28, 2012

The Chargers announced their injury report for Sunday this afternoon, and the two names that immediately jumped out were Jared Gaither and Nate Kaeding, who are both questionable.

While Gaither has been on the injury report since the beginning of the season, the news regarding Kaeding comes as a surprise.

“We’re going to evaluate Nate,” head coach Norv Turner said about his kicker who left early with a groin injury. “He was sore when he started kicking today, and he wasn’t able to continue.  He was listed as limited and we need to see where he’s at.”

Kaeding has gotten off to a flawless start to the season, and is a perfect seven-for-seven on field goal opportunities through three games.  The team will know more about his injury once they land in Kansas City.

“Tomorrow is the key day,” said Turner. “Then we’ll see if he’s just sore or if he’s strained something.  We’ve got to have a good plan for if Nate can kick and a plan for if he can’t…If we have to bring someone in, he’s probably going to have to fly in.”

Gaither, meanwhile, continues to show progress as he recovers from a nagging back injury.  He participated in full for the first time on Friday and now has a 50-50 chance of playing on Sunday.

“I don’t know that (his chances for playing) have changed,” Turner said. “I think he’s made progress each day. I’d like to see where he is tomorrow and see how he feels.  Then we obviously will make the decision Sunday morning.”

While he is officially listed as questionable, Gaither is confident he will play this week and is hopeful to get out there with his teammates.

“I feel good,” he said. “I’m putting one foot in front of the other and grinding. (My chances of playing) are looking awesome.  I’m preparing to play at 12:00 when we kick off.”
