The San Diego Chargers brought in a big, physical, ball-hawking cornerback in ![]()
Cox had plenty of suitors as one of the top defensive backs on the market, but General Manager Tom Telesco made him feel valuable and wanted, which played a big factor in why he decided to join the Bolts.
“Even before I made the decision coming here, my conversations with Tom Telesco and even Ed McGuire, these conversations made me feel that the people in this organization are the right people,” Cox explained. “They are people that value people. And by making me feel that way, that I would be more than just a player and that they value me as a person, I said that’s the type of environment I want to be a part of.”
Backing up their word, the Chargers dispatched Defensive Coordinator John Pagano to the airport to greet Cox, a sign of professionalism the newest addition greatly appreciated.
“The first thing for me, I get off the plane and I run into Coach Pagano,” he said. “That was a great introduction for me here in San Diego….I never had a coach meet me at the plane (before). For me it was a different experience. I cherish it.”
Overall, Cox reiterated numerous times how welcoming the front office made him feel, from President Dean Spanos to Telesco to Head Coach Mike McCoy.
“(The Chargers) already given me the vibe that this is the place for me and that I can be comfortable with,” he said. “They’ve treated me very well. Very personable. So for me, the people have been just great, so I’m definitely convinced and sure that this is the place for me.”
