Here's what he had to say.
Chargers.com: Another week, another big decision for the Chargers.
Spanos: It is. It’s extremely exciting, obviously. It’s been a lot of hard work the last two weeks or so but we now have our new head coach in place and we look forward to getting back to work and get going.
Chargers.com: What made Mike stand out in the interview process?
Spanos: There were a lot of qualities but obviously his leadership ability jus stuck out the most to me. One of the things he said also that was compelling was his family values. His personal family values along with creating a great family environment here at Chargers Park.
Chargers.com: Were there any other qualities that stood out about him?
Spanos: He’s one of the more innovative minds when it comes to the offense but I think his leadership qualities and his ability to get the most out of all of his players. He will command a lot of respect among the organization and among the players. He is enthusiastic and you see all the vibrance in him. It’s refreshing.
Chargers.com: What are your expectations of him?
Spanos: Well he has a full plate on his hands right now being his first day here. He has to get his staff together immediately. I know he’s been working on that as early as last night. They are all going to leave for the Senior Bowl here soon. So they will be gone most of next week. So when he gets back, even though the draft is a couple months away, he will have to start preparing for that. So he’s got a full plate on his hands, that’s for sure.
Chargers.com: How excited are you about this new wave of the Chargers future moving forward?
Spanos: I’m very excited. They both share the same vision I believe. They both are young, relatively speaking, and they both share a common goal which is to win a world championship. I’m excited. I know they are excited and I know the organization is.
Chargers.com: What’s it like now that the process is finally over?
Spanos: It is. It was a very, very long two weeks. I spent a lot of time in the interview process. It was well worth it but now the real work begins.
