Trent Dilfer will serve as an analyst alongside Chris Berman when the San Diego Chargers host the Houston Texans for their Monday night Season opener on ESPN.
I had the chance to chat with Dilfer, who offered his optimistic perspective on the 2013 Bolts.
“I’m excited about this team. I’m a realist. If football is about 16 deep, they could contend for the Super Bowl. At 22 they are still pretty good. My concern, like it is for many teams, is from 23-53. Any time you have a change with a new general manager and new head coach the bottom part of the roster is changing. So I don’t know. But I’m excited to see those 16 especially. I think you still have some guys at their positions that can be as good as anybody in this league.
I’m probably the biggest
Being a (Fresno State) Bulldog, I’m looking forward to seeing Ryan (Mathews). There seems to be a change in his aura. There’s more confidence there. I think this system will really help him be more decisive. The physical traits have always been there. He’s had some unfortunate injuries and put the ball on the ground a bit too much. But
In this division I know people think, especially after Thursday night, that Denver is a lock in this division. I don’t believe that. I think this division is definitely up in the air and that San Diego will be a contender as well. I think this team has as good a chance as anybody.”
