Deadline for Chargers Champions Approaching

Posted Apr 22, 2014

San Diego County schools have until May 2 to apply for physical education and nutrition grants through the Chargers Champions School Grant Program.

Applications are available through the Chargers’ website and must be postmarked by Friday, May 2 in order to be considered.

Chargers Champions is an initiative of the Chargers Community Foundation which annually provides more support for San Diego-area schools than any other corporate donor in the County.  Since the program’s inception in 2000, the Spanos family has donated nearly $5 million to San Diego’s schools and students through the program.

Each year Chargers Champions allows public and private schools within San Diego County to apply for badly-needed funding for physical fitness, nutrition or athletic programs on their campuses.  The program annually provides selected schools with grants of up to $75,000 for high schools; up to $40,000 for middle schools and up to $30,000 for elementary schools.

“Schools throughout California need our support,” Chargers CEO A.G. Spanos said.  “The main goal of our program is to enhance students’ ability to live a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness.”
