The San Diego Chargers have a long standing tradition of supporting the armed forces. In 2013, they’ll be celebrating 25 years by continuing their “Salute to the Military,” which features a walk-through practice aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan at Naval Air Station North Island on Wednesday, August 28th.
“It’s great to see the military and their families out here (and also see) the players signing autographs and really thanking those people who really protect us,” head coach Mike McCoy said after the team hosted troops from MCAS Miramar during training camp.
The walk-through, presented by Anheuser Busch, will take place the day before the team’s final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Afterwards, the team will sign autographs for the crew and their families in attendance. The Charger Girls will also visit with service members and their families during the team’s walk-through.
Prior to the team’s practice, 100 children of Navy Sailors serving on board carriers based at NAS North Island will participate in a Chargers Play 60 Kids Clinic, presented by USAA. The camp is scheduled to run in the Hanger Bay of the ship. Following the clinic, the kids will watch the team practice and get autographs from the players as well.
