SAN DIEGO – Steve Caves walked into Chargers Park on Wednesday to a confetti explosion, a chorus of applause, Charger Girls and most of the front office waiting to shake his hand.Executive Vice President – Chief Executive Officer A.G. Spanos, first in line, informed Caves he will be attending Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans with a friend, courtesy of the Chargers. As the grand prize winner of the Season Ticket Holder Renewal Sweepstakes, he’ll get air fare, hotel and two tickets to the game.
It’s little wonder Caves didn’t have much to say. His red face and wide smile spoke volumes.
“I’m totally surprised. I didn’t know what to expect,” Caves said. “I never thought in a million years I would win anything. I feel very lucky.
“I don’t know how to describe it. It was a lot of people and confetti flying. It just caught me off guard. I was unsure what was going on, to tell you the truth.”
After shaking hands with Chargers President Dean Spanos, General Manager A.J. Smith and Head Coach Norv Turner, a staff member whisked Caves off to a private tour of the team facility. Caves met
“He was a in shock I think, but he was a great winner,” A.G. Spanos said. “He has been a season-ticket holder since 1980 and I don’t think he had any idea what was going to happen when he walked into our lobby. It’s very nice to see. He was very appreciative. It just makes you feel good. I hope we’ll be celebrating with him in New Orleans.”
Other sweepstakes prizes include autographed footballs and helmets as well as road trips for two to three Chargers games during the 2012 season, part of the team’s continued effort to thank and add value for season-ticket holders.
