Chargers fortify O-line

Posted Nov 15, 2011

San Diego acted to stabilize its offensive line Tuesday after missing three starters due to injury by the end of Thursday's game. The team released Darryl Gamble to make room on the roster.

SAN DIEGO – The Chargers signed versatile offensive lineman Tony Moll to a one-year contract. To make room for Moll on the roster, the team released rookie linebacker Darryl Gamble.

The move provides San Diego with insurance along the offensive line after the Chargers finished Thursday’s game against Oakland without three of its starters.

Left tackle Marcus McNeill left on a cart after a hard collision and missed snaps due to a neck injury for the second time this season. Kamerion Wimbley made four sacks for the Raiders in his absence. Left guard Kris Dielman (concussion) missed his third consecutive game last week and Louis Vasquez (ankle) also could not finish last week’s game.

"I would not expect (Dielman) to play this week," Head Coach Norv Turner said. "I do believe he’s making progress."

Moll, 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, played in 60 NFL games from 2006-10 with the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens. He also spent training camp with Jacksonville this season. Moll has started 12 games at right guard, seven at right tackle and two at tight end.

Gamble played in three games after making the opening-day roster as a college free agent. Impressive in preseason, Gamble played mostly special teams.
