Chargers add veteran lineman

Posted Sep 16, 2009

The Chargers addressed their needs along the offensive line Wednesday as they added ninth-year lineman Dennis Norman, who started 14 games at center last year for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Norman can play multiple spots on the offensive line and has appeared in 64 games with 24 starts during his NFL career.  He’s expected to give the Chargers depth at center and guard.  He’s started 15 games at center, eight at guard and one at tackle.  The Princeton grad originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2001.  He signed with Jacksonville as a free agent in 2004 and remained with the Jaguars until he was released this summer at the conclusion of training camp.

In order to make room for Norman on the active roster, the Chargers waived defensive end Andre Coleman, who was elevated from the team’s practice squad on Monday.  Coleman re-signed with the Chargers’ practice squad Wednesday.
