Chargers Wait Tables at Charity Luncheon

Posted May 17, 2013

The San Diego Chargers helped raise money at STAR/PAL’s 13th Annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon.

Eight members of the Chargers were on hand with other notable San Diego luminaries to raise money Friday afternoon at STAR/PAL’s 13th Annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon.  Vincent Brown, Marcus Gilchrist, Corey Liuget, Jonas Mouton, Kyle Nelson, Rich Ohrnberger, Kendall Reyes and Shareece Wright served as waiters, earning “tips” by serving food, signing autographs, taking pictures and doing whatever it took to raise as much money they possibly could.

All proceeds went to STAR/PAL, an organization dedicated to assisting law enforcement officers and community volunteers to provide over 10,000 youth services each year. Their mission is to “empower underserved youth to build a safer and more prosperous community by engaging with law enforcement and collaborative partners,” such as the Chargers.

Showing up was a no brainer for the Bolts in attendance, who relish the opportunity to give back to the city of San Diego.

“It’s always a good thing to give back, no matter what it is,” said Gilchrist. “This is a great event that has been going on for a while.  This is my first year here and I’m honored to be a part of it.  Putting a smile on people’s faces and helping others is what we should be doing as athletes.  It’s part of the territory.”

Fellow defensive back Wright echoed those same sentiments as he talked about how he and his teammates were having a competition to see who could raise the most money.

“This is very special and is something we take pride in as players,” he said. “Just giving back and doing what we can.  We know it makes a difference.  We as players compete in everything we do and we’re competing out here today. I promised I’d make more money than any of them.”

As a result, the Chargers were among the most spirited, and creative, of all the local celebrities in attendance. They were so spirited that Corey Liuget even offered to interview a patron for Chargers.com if they were willing to donate more money.

You can catch the interview and much more in the video above.
