Chargers Trim Roster, Release 10 Players

Posted Aug 25, 2013

The San Diego Chargers trimmed the roster down to 80 players on Sunday.

The San Diego Chargers released 10 players on Sunday in the most significant roster deduction to date.  The team must get down to 75 players by Tuesday and 53 by Friday.

The following players were let go:

  1. Running Back Edwin Baker
  2. Center Colin Baxter
  3. Cornerback Greg Brown
  4. Safety Tony Burnett
  5. Wide Receiver Deon Butler
  6. Guard Brandyn Dombrowski
  7. Quarterback Nathan Enderle
  8. Punter Richard Kent
  9. Defensive Lineman Jamarkus McFarland
  10. Tight End Dallas Walker

According to head coach Mike McCoy, this is one of his least favorite parts about the game of football.

“This is the bad part about the business,” he said. “We have 90 players who have worked extremely hard since the very beginning. It’s something you hate, because I personally have been in this position a number of times and have been cut a number of times. You work all your life for an opportunity. It’s not a fair business. Certain things come up… It’s the bad part of the business. We’ll have to say good-bye to some players and wish them well.  You never know when you might bring them back, but I can’t thank them enough for doing a phenomenal job of buying-in and working extremely hard day-in and day-out.”
