Chargers Thankful for Home Crowd Contributing to Win

Posted Dec 8, 2013

A loud Qualcomm Stadium played a role in the Chargers win over the Giants.

Philip Rivers was once again sensational.

Keenan Allen continued to make his case for Rookie of the Year.

Ryan Mathews carried the rock a career-high 29 times while Danny Woodhead set a new career high with his eighth touchdown of the year.

The defense was outstanding, forcing a season-high three turnovers while registering up an incredible 11 passes defensed.

There were many heroes that contributed to the 37-14 win, but there was one in particular many Chargers credited with victory assist.

The rowdy, raucous Qualcomm Stadium crowd.

“They were incredible,” said D.J. Fluker with an immense grin. “The atmosphere was great.  The fans were very excited, I can tell you that.  They were excited, pumped up and we got the ‘W’ for them which is always great.  We’re really amped up.  To get a win when the fans are like they were today, there’s nothing better.”

From the first time Eli Manning hit the field, the crowd got loud as would be expected.  However, they weren’t just booing him when he was announced.  The noise poured in the entire game, forcing the Giants to take a delay of game and make other mistakes when the Chargers defense was on the field.

“They were great,” said Manti Te’o.  “The energy they gave us was great.  It’s definitely a positive thing, and we were just glad that we were able to give them what they deserve, and that’s a win.”

Philip Rivers acknowledged that they haven’t been as good as they’d hoped at home, going 3-3 on the season. But he noted that in the games the Bolts have won, the crowd played a big role. Giving them reason to cheer like they did today, as well as against the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts makes wins like this all the more rewarding.

“It was good to win at home,” he said.  “We haven’t been great at home.  I think back to Dallas and Indy, those were two great atmospheres.  We got it done today at home, and I know our fans were appreciative of it.”

The standing ovation they got at halftime with a 24-0 lead and the lengthy cheers at the end of the game when the clock struck 0:00 were indicative of that appreciation.

There are still two more games left at home when the Bolts close out the season against the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.  If Sunday’s game against the Giants is any indication of what it will be like down the stretch for the Bolts, you don’t want to miss out.  Click here to purchase your tickets.
