Chargers Sign Veteran Guard/Tackle Reggie Wells

Posted Sep 11, 2012

The San Diego Chargers announced they filled the open 53rd spot on the roster by signing guard/tackle Reggie Wells.  A 10-year veteran, the 6-foot-4, 318-pound offensive lineman has appeared in 117 career games and started 91 of them.

“The fact that we carried eight linemen originally, people knew we were looking for another one,” said General Manager A.J. Smith. “And we found the right guy, and that’s Reggie. With the Jared Gaither situation unknown and a day-to-day process, we decided to make the move at this point in time. We will put him in at the guard and tackle positions, and head coach Norv Turner will decide exactly where he fits in for us.”

Originally a sixth-round selection by Arizona out of Clarion, Wells spent the first seven years of his career with the Cardinals.  In 2010 he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, and most recently spent the 2011 campaign with the Carolina Panthers. Wells spent this year’s training camp with the Green Bay Packers.
