Chargers Sign Sean Cattouse, Greg Gatson; Aubrayo Franklin and Brandon Taylor Placed on IR

Posted Dec 26, 2012

With Aubrayo Franklin and Brandon Taylor out for year, Chargers sign Sean Cattouse and Greg Gatson from practice squad.

The Chargers made a handful of roster moves today in preparation for their season finale against the Oakland Raiders.  Sean Cattouse and Greg Gatson have been signed off the practice squad to the 53-man roster while Aubrayo Franklin and Brandon Taylor have been placed on the Reserve/Injured list. Meanwhile, taking Cattouse and Gatson’s spots on the practice squad are Arthur Hobbs and Anthony Miller while Jamie McCoy was signed off the practice squad by the Steelers.

A 6-foot-2, 210-pound free safety out of California, Cattouse was one of the final cuts by the Chargers out of training camp.  He joined the practice squad on Nov. 27. In college, Cattouse recorded 184 tackles, seven interceptions, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and had 17 passes defensed.

Gatson is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound cornerback who was active for two games earlier in the season when the Chargers lacked depth at the position. He played collegiately at Arkansas, finishing his career with 52 tackles and two sacks.

Franklin, a key member of the Chargers defensive line rotation this season, heads to the IR with a knee injury.  The 6-foot-1, 317-pound defensive tackle appeared in 12 games and started nine of them, recording 20 tackles.  Franklin’s presence has most been felt in the run game where he constantly took on double teams to free up his teammates to make plays.

Taylor, the team’s third-round pick out of LSU in April’s draft, was also placed on IR due to a knee injury.  The 5-foot-11, 210-pound strong safety appeared in four games with one start, recording six tackles and 0.5 sacks.  Taylor had a standout career at LSU, recording 160 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions.

Hobbs is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound cornerback out of Nebraska-Kearney who spent training camp with the Chargers.  He recorded three tackles in four preseason games. Miller, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound tight end out of Cal-Berkeley who was with the Denver Broncos in training camp.  He caught one pass in the preseason for three yards.
