Chargers Sign Edwin Baker to 53-Man Roster

Posted Dec 19, 2012

Edwin Baker

Following yesterday’s moves regarding Malcom Floyd, Reggie Wells and Ryan Mathews being placed on IR, the Chargers had an open spot on the 53-man roster.  The team filled that spot this afternoon with running back Edwin Baker, the team’s seventh-round draft choice out of Michigan State who has been on the practice squad all season.

Baker was the team’s seventh-round draft choice out of Michigan State, where he amassed 2,293 yards and 19 touchdowns over his collegiate career.  The 5-foot-8, 200-pound running back led the Chargers in the preseason in both carries (22) and yards (59). With Mathews out for the remainder of the season, Baker could see action on Sunday.

To fill his spot on the practice squad, the Chargers signed fullback Jamie McCoy out of Texas A&M. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder spent time earlier this season on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.
