Chargers Sign Alexander, Place Kaeding on IR

Posted Oct 22, 2012

The San Diego Chargers made a number of moves today, most notably signing wide receiver Danario Alexander and placing Nate Kaeding on the reserve/injured list.  The team plans on releasing Kaeding as soon as he is healthy.

Alexander is a 6-foot-5, 214-pound wideout who has recorded 46 catches over his first two years in the league for 737 yards and three touchdowns.

Chargers fans are most probably familiar with Alexander due to his fine performance against them in his NFL debut.  On October 17, 2010, he caught four passes for 72 yards including a 38-yard touchdown reception.

Blessed with tremendous size and talent, the biggest knock on Alexander has been his inability to stay healthy.  He suffered a knee injury during the senior bowl prior to the 2010 NFL Draft, which many believe kept him from being selected.  He has continued to have knee injuries throughout his professional career, but hopes to have turned the corner now that he is with the Bolts.

Kaeding is in his ninth season after being drafted by the Chargers in the third round of the 2004 draft.  He has made 180 of 207 field goal attempts in his career, including all seven of his field goal attempts this season.  Kaeding injured his groin prior to Week 4’s match against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chargers also made a pair of moves regarding their practice squad, signing WR Kashif Moore while releasing Marques Clark.
