Chargers Re-Sign Reliable Windt

Posted Mar 9, 2013

The San Diego Chargers re-signed long snapper Mike Windt to a four-year contract Saturday morning.

The San Diego Chargers this morning re-signed long snapper Mike Windt, who has quickly become a reliable and key member of the team’s special teams unit.

Over the past three seasons, Windt has honed his craft to become a steady and reliable force in both the kicking and punting game.  He was originally signed as a free agent in 2010 after an injury to David Binn.  In 2011, he won an intense training camp competition with Binn, the Chargers’ all-time leader for career games played, and retained the job as the team’s long snapper.

Windt’s 2012 seasons ended abruptly when he broke his wrist in a week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos, but he is expected to be ready well before the start of the 2013 season. Overall, the 6-foot-2, 252 pound product out of Cincinnati has appeared in 37 games in three seasons.
