
“It was way outside,” Rivers said of his not-so-perfect pitch. “I was disappointed. (Kris) Dielman and (Nick) Hardwick talked me into throwing it hard, so that’s why it got away from me. I could have gone the lollipop route, but that’s boring.”
Despite the wild pitch, the Chargers’ sure-handed QB enjoyed a great day at the ballpark watching the Padres notch a decisive 17-2 win over the Atlanta Braves, one of his favorite teams growing up.
“Opening day … for the Pads to play the way they played and obviously win; you can’t beat it,” he said. “And I grew up going to Braves games. All that together made it a fun day.”
It was the second time he’s thrown out the first pitch for one of their games. In 2007, the Padres invited Rivers to throw out the first pitch before a game against San Francisco.
