Chargers Offense on an Early Roll

Posted Nov 1, 2012

It didn’t take long for the San Diego offense to prove it was back to top form.

After only scoring six points in their last six quarters, the Chargers jumped on the scoreboard in a hurry.

On the first series of the game, Rivers would march the Chargers 80 yards on seven plays, capped by a 14-yard touchdown reception by tight end Antonio Gates to put San Diego up 7-0. Rivers was 4-for-4 on the drive for 70 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu grabbed a key 28-yard reception on a third-and-five to prolong the drive.

After a San Diego fumble recovery, Rivers would again drive the Chargers deep into Chiefs’ territory, keyed by a 30-yard catch and run by Danario Alexander on third down. Nick Novak put the Chargers up 10-0 on a 25-yard field goal.

Rivers was 9-for-9 for 127 yards and one touchdown, a passer rating of 155.8 after the first two drives.
