Sunday’s win was the 400th victory in the history of the San Diego Chargers.
It was also the first win of what the Bolts hope will be many in the Mike McCoy-Tom Telesco era.
Amidst the euphoria in the locker room following the game, it wasn’t lost on the team that they earned a win for the new head coach and general manager.
“It’s awesome,” Rivers said with a smile on his face. “The one thing Mike’s had is a plan from day one. When he got here, it was very clear. Now that doesn’t mean that every little thing we were doing we were like ‘That’s awesome,” but we knew he had a plan. So it’s awesome to get him his first win, and our first win together, because you can build on that. Winning’s contagious. So is losing. So it’s nice to get in the win column early in the season.”
Another captain on the team,
“It was huge,” he said. “Hopefully we get some more for them.”
McCoy himself chimed in on his first victory as a head coach in the NFL, expressing how thankful he was to have the opportunity to coach the Chargers.
“Hopefully it’s the first of many,” he said. “That’s our plan. My family and I are very thankful for the opportunity we have, and I’m very fortunate I have the coaching staff I have here. The opportunity Dean (Spanos) gave me and the rest of the Spanos family, Tom and Ed (McGuire), I’m very fortunate. We have a great group of people here, and it’s a great opportunity for this organization. We just have to build off of this. It’s great to have the first win together."
