Chargers Nab Cornerback Johnny Patrick

Posted Feb 20, 2013

The Chargers have claimed third year cornerback Johnny Patrick off of waivers from the New Orleans Saints.

A third-round pick of the Saints in 2011 (88th overall), the 5-11, 190-pound Patrick played in nine games as a rookie and 15 games last season. He totaled 21 tackles this past season to go along with three passes defensed, while adding five stops for the Saints’ special teams. As a rookie he totaled eight tackles on defense and one on special teams.

The 24-year-old Patrick is a native of DeLand, Florida. He attended the University of Louisville where he was a first-team All-Big East pick as a senior and finished his career with 171 tackles, 22 passes defensed, nine interceptions and two blocked field goals. Patrick also competed as a sprinter on the Cardinals’ track and field team as both a freshman and sophomore.
