The San Diego Chargers made a number of roster moves on Monday, highlighted by the addition of offensive tackle Willie Smith. To make room for him, the team released tackle
Smith is a 6-5, 310-pound tackle who has spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins. A product of East Carolina, he appeared in nine games with the Raiders last season with seven starts. Meanwhile, with the Redskins in 2011, he appeared in four games, making three starts.
Wiggins joined the Chargers active roster on Saturday and dressed for Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. The 6-6, 314-pounder was initially signed to the team’s practice squad on Sept. 2. Wiggins began his career with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted rookie in 2011. He was released at the end of his rookie training camp and later spent five weeks on Baltimore’s practice squad. He re-signed with the 49ers in 2012 and spent the entire ’12 season on San Francisco’s practice squad. Wiggins went to training camp again with San Francisco in 2013, but was released at the end of training camp.
