The Chargers jumped out to a 10-3 halftime lead against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night thanks to a 14-yard touchdown reception from quarterback 
After receiving the opening kickoff, the Chargers marched 80 yards on seven plays to jump out to a 7-0 lead. The Rivers-Gates touchdown pass was the Chargers’ first in seven quarters.

As a result, Rivers would again lead San Diego deep into Kansas City territory.
In the second quarter, quarterback Matt Cassel and the Chiefs offense would cut the lead down to 10-3 on a Ryan Succop 49-yard field goal.
Rivers finished the half 14-of-16 for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Rivers connected with six different receivers.
