Chargers Lead 10-3 at Half

Posted Nov 1, 2012

The Chargers jumped out to a 10-3 halftime lead against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night thanks to a 14-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Philip Rivers to tight end Antonio Gates.

After receiving the opening kickoff, the Chargers marched 80 yards on seven plays to jump out to a 7-0 lead. The Rivers-Gates touchdown pass was the Chargers’ first in seven quarters.

On the ensuing possession, inside linebacker Demorrio Williams forced a Chiefs fumble, which would be recovered by cornerback Quentin Jammer.

As a result, Rivers would again lead San Diego deep into Kansas City territory. Nick Novak would knock in a 25-yard field goal to put the Chargers up 10-0.

In the second quarter, quarterback Matt Cassel and the Chiefs offense would cut the lead down to 10-3 on a Ryan Succop 49-yard field goal.

Rivers finished the half 14-of-16 for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Rivers connected with six different receivers.
